Red Sox ready to celebrate Big Papi's final home series

BOSTON — It's the final weekend of the regular season for the Red Sox and that means David Ortiz has just one final regular season series left at Fenway.

Of course, he'll be back for post-season play and we're all more than excited to see what's he's got in store for us, but with the AL East already clinched this weekend's series against Toronto is really all about saying goodbye to Big Papi.

Starting Thursday, the Sox will be carting a giant "34" around Boston to let fans take photos with it and sign a giant 'thank you' card. You can follow their progress using #ThanksPapi.

The 34 will be making stops at the Prudential Center, Boston Common, Faneuil Hall and Boston Public Market over the next two days.

The schedule is subject to change, but tentatively looks like this:

• Thursday: Prudential - 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (possibly all day if weather is an issue) and Boston Common from 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
• Friday: Faneuil Hall from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and Public Market from 2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Once the series kicks off against Toronto, the Sox are also urging fans to show up early and get in their seats for special ceremonies to honor Ortiz.

The tribute also includes a giant image of David Ortiz cut into the grass at center field.

Fenway will open two hours before game time for this series.

On Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1, the club wants fans in their seats by 6:30 p.m. before the 7:10 games. On Sunday, Oct. 2, fans should be in their seats by 2.

The Sox say to expect heavy traffic and are recommending taking the T or commuter rail.
