Red Sox expand protective netting at Fenway Park

BOSTON - The Red Sox will extend their protective netting beyond the dugout for the 2018 baseball season.

The team announced Saturday a new netting system that will extend from Field Box Section 79 to Field Box Section 9, protecting more than double the amount of sections than before.

It will stand at the same height as the netting already in place at Fenway Park.

However, fans worry the new protective netting may block their view of the game or prevent them from catching fly balls.

The team says the netting is necessary to protect fans during the games, and that the new nets will not obstruct their view.

Additionally, the JetBlue Park in Ft. Meyers will expand its protective netting - in time for spring training.

The Sox said the netting will be 'field green' in an attempt to minimize the distraction from the fields.

The team said while this will provide more protection, it still encourages all fans to be on the lookout for loose balls and bats while attending games.
