Recovery efforts continue at Milford quarry for missing teen

MILFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Search and rescue crews were looking to recover a missing teen at the Fletcher Quarry in Milford on Sunday.

At around 1:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the Milford Police Department tweeted that a "major" search and rescue effort was underway to find a missing teen. The department posted a photo of a crew standing on the quarry assessing the scene.
The search and rescue effort included a dive team searching at least 30 feet deep into the water.

The missing 18-year-old man was part of a group of five teenagers from Rhode Island who were jumping from the rocks above into the water. The five all jumped into the water but only four resurfaced.

Hours after the incident first occurred, responders were still searching the waters at the quarry. The search was expected to be called off for the night when it got dark. Police said it did not appear that alcohol was a factor in the incident.

Also in Milford on Sunday, a 10-year-old was rushed to UMass Medical Center in Worcester after going into cardiac arrest at the town pool at Fino Field. The Milford police chief did not know for sure if that incident was a near-drowning or if the child suffered a possible seizure or other medical incident. The 10-year-old was in critical condition Sunday afternoon.
