Record number of MBTA workers paid $100K+ in 2017

BOSTON — A record number of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority workers brought home $100,000 or more last year.

The MBTA paid six figures to more than 2,000 employees, which is up 13 percent from the year before.

One electrical foreman made $270,000, which is more than the T’s chief operating officer.

An MBTA spokesperson attributes the increase to reduced staff sizes. It said more people were paid overtime to make up for the lack of employees.

Despite the record number of six figure salaries, the MBTA’s payroll actually declined by $6 million last year.
