Reactions mixed to proposed ‘pot and porn' district in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — A proposed zoning change in Bridgewater has residents concerned over what they’re calling the “pot and porn plan.”

Currently, two medical marijuana facilities are planning to open on Elm Street, and the focus has turned to whit types of businesses might come next.

“I certainly don't think it's going to add to the moral character of our town,” Maureen Lunsford said.

The zoning change would create a special district on Elm Street where recreational marijuana and adult entertainment stores would be permitted.

The street runs parallel to Route 24, and has a mix of businesses and homes.

“I think what they are doing is zoning it so it would only be allowed where we live, so I'm guessing none of the people on the town council live in my zone,” Steve Clark, who bought a home on Elm Street last year, said.

But others, like spiritual wellness store owner John Hailey, said it just makes sense.

“It's on the outskirts of town it's close to the highway,  I feel if there's a space that's an appropriate space,” he said.
