BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A rare sea bird that may have been recorded only a half-dozen times in Massachusetts was spotted by whale-watchers in Massachusetts Bay Sunday afternoon.
According to Mass Audobon, the Brown Booby hitched a ride on a whale watch boat from Stellwagen Bank off the tip of Provincetown across Massachusetts Bay to Central Wharf by the New England Aquarium in Boston.
The Brown Booby, a sea bird of tropical oceans, is mostly brown with a white belly. It is up to 2.5 inches tall with a wing span of up to five feet.
The bird apparently camped out on the boat overnight and was gone the next morning; however, it may still be in the harbor area.
The whale watch is
operated by Boston Harbor Cruises.
