Quincy officer arrested after standoff with Raynham police

RAYNHAM, Mass. — A Quincy officer has been placed on administrative leave after an overnight standoff in Raynham.

Officers were called to a house on Britton Street around 9 p.m. Monday for reports of a domestic incident. When the officers arrived, they made contact with a woman inside the home and attempted to speak with a man, later identified as Keith Wilbur, who was in another room.

Police say Wilbur, who appeared drunk, had barricaded himself inside with guns and told officers not to come down to his basement or he would kill them.

Police say Wilbur fired two shots at officers through the door. The officers took the woman and children and left the home.

FOX25 confirmed that 51-year-old Wilbur is an 18-year veteran of the Quincy Police Department.

Additional teams were called in, including the SWAT team and a negotiating team, and a perimeter was set up around the home. Several times during the standoff, Wilbur exited the home with an AR-15-style rifle but returned back inside.

Officers negotiated with Wilbur and say that around 1 a.m. Tuesday, he surrendered peacefully in the driveway.

"He's hanging in there he's obviously upset. He's concerned about the wellbeing of his family and everybody else along those lines. He's concerned about the officers involved on this,” Wilbur’s attorney Josh Werner said.

In court Tuesday, Wilbur faced multiple charges and will be held until Friday for another hearing. In that hearing, the court will decide whether his service in the U.S. Air Force will qualify him for a diversion program.
