• Quincy man arrested following brief high speed chase

WATERTOWN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Police arrested a 27-year-old Quincy man early Wednesday morning following a brief high speed pursuit on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.

Shelton Christopher has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop, speeding, resisting arrest, and marked lanes violation for the incident which occurred at about 1:15 a.m.

A trooper on patrol on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton spotted two cars traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone and pulled them both over; however, as he approached, one of the cars, a white Honda Accord, sped away.

Christopher allegedly reached speeds of 80 mph before attempting to turn onto Grove Street in Watertown and crashing into a light pole.

According to state police, Christopher got out of his car and walked toward the trooper's cruiser, yelling at him before taking off running up a hill in an attempt to flee.

The trooper found Christopher tripping, falling, and stumbling on Grove Street. When the trooper caught up to him, Christopher allegedly charged at the trooper who used pepper spray to subdue him, authorities said.

Christopher was then taken into custody and given medical treatment at the barracks. He was held on $5,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
