BOSTON — Boston’s city council held a public hearing Monday about an ordinance that would impose strict regulations on short term rentals, like Airbnb.

City hall was packed for the meeting after Airbnb sent out an email requesting users be there.

The city council has proposed banning investor owned units.

Supporters say corporations are causing a housing shortage in the city and forcing rental prices to soar.

Airbnb users say the proposed ordinance would unfairly discriminate against individual property owners.

City council is expected to vote later this week.
