Protest against Charlottesville violence continue on Boston Common

BOSTON — Shortly after Saturday’s attack, a rally on the Boston Common called for an end to the violence and hate and continued on Sunday.

But a rally scheduled to take place next Saturday is hosted by a free speech group claiming it has no affiliation to the white nationalist group in Virginia.

The group is called Boston Free Speech. The group held a rally on the Common back in May.

The group wrote on its Facebook page it is not associated with the organizers of the Charlottesville rally.

Despite that, people who spoke to Boston 25 News say they plan to counter protest the event.

One of the hundreds taking a stand against white supremacists on the Common Saturday was Joey Hsu.

The protests in Charlottesville hit close to home for Hsu, who just graduated from the University of Virginia. He says he still has friends there.

“Personally, that just sent shivers down my spine, I can't imagine for them to actually be there in person,” he said. “I just encourage them to continue using that passion in a respectful and peaceful manner.”

That was certainly the message on the Common, rallying together to show unity and resistance.

Boston Free Speech also posted on Facebook it’s already received death threats, and the group planning to contact Boston Police.

Here’s a list of local events organized after the attack in Charlottesville Saturday.
