Hernandez is accused of fatally shooting Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado shortly after the encounter on July 16, 2012 as the two men sat in their car at a stoplight.

"I noticed the front seat passenger had a gunshot wound to the head," said Sgt. Shawn McCarthy with the Boston Police.

McCarthy was one of the first to respond to a report of shots fired at the intersection of Herald and Shawmut. Daniel Deabreu and Safiro Furtado were lifeless in the front of a car. Gunshot survivor Aquileno Friere outside of it, conscious but distraught

"They were his friends, his friends he kept saying my friends," said Sgt. Clifton McHale.

The defense attorney alleged a sloppy investigation and a contaminated crime scene. With his line of questioning, Defense Attorney Jose Baez attempted to reinforce that.

"This line search. Was that done before after the street sweeper came by...were you the person to place the sheets over the bodies?" he asked.

A street sweeper passed by the crime scene, possibly sweeping up evidence, and EMTs placed sheets on the two bodies before they were processed and photographed.

The courtroom was packed with family and friends of the Dorchester victims, both Cape Verdian immigrants.

Just one person was in court to support Hernandez, his former fiancé and the mother of his daughter, Shayanna Jenkins.
