Pregnant women warned to stay away from popular candy

NEW YORK — Medical researchers are warning pregnant women to stay away from another popular food.

According to a new study, licorice could be harmful to babies.

Researchers found the sweetener in licorice may affect a baby’s IQ.

They said mothers who eat licorice produce a stress hormone that could harm the baby’s nervous system.

The study, published in the New York Times, found children exposed to the hormone were three times more likely to suffer from ADHD and scored lower on tests.
