Polito's Take: Hernandez Fumbles

From FOX 25 News Commentator Jim Polito:

In the game of life, Aaron Hernandez could have scored a perpetual touchdown. He had a clear path to the goal line thanks to his God-given talent and the opportunities afforded him by the NFL. He got the ball and was smart enough to run in the right direction. Unfortunately, he carried his thug lifestyle too and he fumbled without being touched by another player. As my colleague Bob Ward so eloquently said outside court today, Aaron Hernandez woke up in his mansion this morning, still a New England Patriot, tonight he'll sleep in a single bed in a small cell.

Even if Hernandez did not pull the trigger, the evidence presented today shows he was prominently involved in this murder. We can speculate over a possible motive, but there's plenty of time for that later. If he's convicted of murder, he will spend the rest of his life behind bars. That's plenty of time to think about the two lives, minimum, that he has destroyed.

Hernandez is not the first and sadly, he will not be the last person to squander such a blessing. The only good that can come of this is that maybe some other person will pause before they destroy their life. Aaron Hernandez never was a very good role model for kids but maybe now he is.
