Police: Thief left 52-year-old man to die on Red Line platform

BOSTON — A man was left to die on a Red Line platform in Boston Wednesday by a thief, according to transit police.

Anthony Stimson, 30, found a 52-year-old man, identified as Willie Williams, suffering a ‘medical emergency’ on the platform at Downtown Crossing, police said.

He went through Williams' belongings and stole some of his possessions before leaving him there, according to a report.

Investigators say Stimson allegedly got away with a pill bottle and shampoo and never called for help.

Police say Williams was pronounced dead after EMS found him unconscious and tried to resuscitate him.

Officers say they found Stimson on Summer Street and arrested him at a convenience store.

"There is no allegation of violence or that this was a robbery of any kind, simply a larceny," said Patrick Colvario of CPCS.

Stimson's attorney argued for a lower bail, claiming the offense was not a violent one.

"The victim is observed on a bench and the defendant is observed taking a bag from the victim and walking away," said Suffolk County ADA Alyssa Tochka. "The defendant then returns to the victim's location at 3:50 in the morning and continues to go through the victim's suitcase and his clothing pockets until he leaves the area at 4:17 in the morning."

Stimson hid his face in court on Wednesday arguing the identification police made from the T-station surveillance couldn't be proven and argued for a lighter bail since the crime was non-violent.

The Suffolk County District Attorney pointed to Stimson's record, which dates back to 2005, and included assault and battery with a knife and drug possession.

Stimson is currently being held on a $10,000 bail.

He admitted to stealing from William's and that they both knew each other - as both listed their address as the Pine Street Inn Shelter.

Stimson claims Williams "dated his mother".
