Police: Teen brought gun to Dorchester school

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A 16-year-old student was arrested after bringing a gun to a Dorchester high school Monday morning.

School officials at Jeremiah E. Burke High School on Washington Street said the gun was unloaded, but the student had a small amount of ammunition.

Officials said after they discovered the weapon around 9 a.m., school administrators followed "appropriate procedures to ensure the safety of all students and staff in the school building."

It is unclear why the student brought the gun to school.

The school was not in lockdown, and officials said they day would continue without interruption. Parents were notified.

The student was not identified.

The teen was arraigned on juvenile counts of possessing a firearm and ammunition. A judge set $1,000 cash bail and ordered him to remain at home under electronic monitoring if he is released.
