TAUNTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Investigators say a man hit by a train in Taunton Monday night died as a result of gunshot wounds.
Taunton police were called to the area of 37 Cushman Street at about 11:40 p.m. Monday on reports of a man being struck by a CSX transportation train. The victim, 24-year-old Edwin Rivera Jr., 24, of Taunton, was later transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
An autopsy concluded Rivera died from gunshot wounds. His death has been declared a homicide.
Another Taunton man, 21-year-old Flavio Daveiga, was arrested Wednesday and charged with accessory to murder before the fact and obstruction of justice for his alleged connection to Rivera's death. Daveiga was arraigned in Taunton District Court and ordered held on $2 million cash bail. His bail was also revoked in four open cases.
Daveiga is scheduled to return to court Dec. 3.
