Police: Spencer woman facing OUI had 8 small wine bottles, 3 children in car

LIECESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Spencer woman accused of driving drunk with three children in the car was allegedly in possession of eight empty small bottles of wine at the time of her arrest.

Workers at Northeast Pizza in Leicester called police just before 8 p.m. Friday when the woman, identified as 29-year-old Shawna Lynne Nygard, entered the eatery to place an order. Employees claim Nygard appeared to be "extremely intoxicated." They also noticed she had three children in the car she was driving.

Investigators claim Nygard became combative and attempted to leave the restaurant when workers offered her assistance. The workers called police and blocked Nygard from getting into her car and driving off, police say.

Police arrested Nygard after a short investigation and charged her with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, operating under the influence of alcohol, OUI alcohol - child endangerment, possession of an open container of alcohol, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Investigators reportedly found Nygard's child, as well as two other children who are her relatives, inside her car. They also claim they found empty wine bottles inside Nygard's purse and car.

Nygard was held on $500 cash bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in East Brookfield District Court.
