Police shoot, injure man in South Boston

SOUTH BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) – Police say two officers shot and wounded a man who fired at them as they sought to question him about alleged drug selling in a South Boston neighborhood.

The confrontation happened at about 1 p.m. on Old Colony Avenue, near the McCormack housing complex and Joseph Moakley Park.

Police said officers went to the neighborhood to check out a report of a woman smoking crack cocaine, and she described a man who allegedly sold it to her.

According to police, they spotted the man, who allegedly tried to flee and then shot at them. The officers returned fire and hit the suspect in the chest. He was taken to Tufts Medical Center and is in stable condition.

The two officers were treated for stress.

Boston Police Superintendent-in-Chief Daniel Linksey told reporters at the scene that a gun and drugs were recovered.

The incident remains under investigation.
