Police sergeant arrested on assault charges

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Sgt. John Swallow has been arrested for allegedly assaulting someone early Saturday morning, a source tells us the victim is a woman.

Beverly Police say that a victim called 911 just after midnight on Saturday, saying Swallow tried to shoot her.

Swallow has been charged with assault and battery, discharging a firearm, intimidation of a witness, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, and three counts of improperly storing firearms. He's still in custody, but has a $10,000 bail.

Authorities at the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department won't say if Swallow has been placed on administrative leave or not. The chief is expected to give out new information on Monday morning.
