Police back on property of year-old Peabody double murder

Officials are back in a Peabody neighborhood, searching the property where a brutal double homicide took place last year.

Police were called to 19 Farm Avenue in Peabody on Feb. 18, 2017 where they found the bodies of 37-year-old Mark Greenlaw and 39-year-old Jennifer O'Connor in the basement. Police said the crime scene was so "messy and cluttered" they had to use a special X-ray machine to locate the victims.

Michael Hebb and Wes Doughty were named suspects in the crime.

On Tuesday, the Essex District Attorney's Office said they are searching the property, with help from FBI, MSP and Peabody police.

Officials say "information was obtained that necessitates a further search of the property." The DA's office wouldn't confirm if what they're searching for is related directly to the double murder, or if it's evidence of other crimes.

Stanley Pikul's family has lived next door for years, but for the last eleven months, the only real neighbors have been wearing uniforms.

"Anytime you see police next door and the media showing up, it certainly does open up old wounds," said Pikul.

Investigators say Doughty murdered the couple and Hebb helped dispose of the bodies by rolling them in a carpet in the basement. Doughty was on the run for nine days, carjacking another man before he was arrested in South Carolina.

Hebb pleaded guilty in October to his role in helping cover up the murders. Doughty - who is facing charges including two counts of murder, rape, and attempted arson - is still awaiting trial and is due back in court Feb. 16.
