Police search for suspect in Worcester barber shop killing

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) – Police in Worcester were searching for a suspect in connection with a shooting at a barber shop that left one man dead.

Police were called to the Fadeaway Barber Shop on Chandler Street just after 5:30 p.m. Friday for the report of gunshots. When officers arrived they learned one person had been taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The man, 30-year-old Worcester resident Eliezer Rivera, later died at the hospital.

Police said the man got into a fight with the suspect, before the suspect pulled a gun and shot him.

Police told the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester that they have identified the suspect and a murder warrant has been issued, but they believe the man may have fled the country. The suspect's name hasn't been released.

Anyone with any information is asked to call 508-799-8651 or visit worcesterma.gov/police.

Records show Rivera also was shot in Southbridge last year during a reported argument over a stolen ATV. He was shot twice in the groin in that incident.
