Police search for 2 carjacking suspects in Melrose area


MELROSE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com)— Mass. State Police began a search for two suspects involved in a carjacking in the Melrose area just before 1 p.m. Friday. and continued to search throughout the evening.

A 14-year-old teenager was in the car when the carjacking started in Revere. The teen may have been forced to drive, police say, but was able to return home safely.

The suspects ditched the car on Main Street in Melrose and then fled on foot. Police and K9s searched for the suspects in several areas of the city with help from the Mass. State Police airwing. A warning was issued for residents to stay in their homes until further notice.

The suspects were last seen crossing the Lynn Fells Parkway toward Linden Road, police say. The first suspect is described as a white man who weighs about 170 pounds and was wearing a pink shirt and black hat. Police describe the second suspect as a white man who weighs about 190 pounds and was wearing beige pants and a black hat.

Just before 6 p.m., police announced that they had completed a thorough search of Melrose and would continue to look for the suspects in the city and surrounding area. They went on to stay that it was safe for residents to continue with their normal activities. However, they asked that people be vigilant, and to contact police if they see any suspicious activity.
