BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Peabody man is under arrest for attempting to make methamphetamine using the "one pot method" and instead causing an explosion at a Holiday Inn, police said.
Joseph Penachio was arrested on Lynn Street in Peabody Thursday morning and brought to federal court in Boston to face drug charges.
Investigators say the explosion occurred at the Holiday Inn in Peabody in July 2012 while Penachio was attempting to manufacture methamphetamine by combining over-the-counter cold medicine and common household products inside a plastic bottle.
As Penachio found out, the "one pot method" is dangerous because it is extremely explosive.
Penachio remains in custody. He will appear in federal court Friday for a detention hearing.
