Police: Pair arrested for armed robbery attempts against elderly

HAVERHILL, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two women were arrested in connection with a recent spree of armed robbery attempts that targeted elderly people who were shopping at the Westgate Shopping Plaza and the Central Plaza in Haverhill.

According to The Eagle Tribune, six victims, all over the age of 65, told police they were approached by a woman asking for money. The woman allegedly threatened each of the victims with a kitchen knife if they refused to comply.

Police were given a description of the suspect's vehicle and made two arrests Wednesday morning.

Michelle Legault, 35, of Barrington, N.H. has been charged with armed robbery, four counts of armed assault with intent to rob a person over the age of 65, attempted larceny from a person and sexual conduct for a fee.

Lisa Wallace, 46, of Bradford, has been charged with accessory before the fact, attempted larceny from a person, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, four counts conspiracy to commit armed assault with intent to rob a person over the age of 65, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and deriving support from prostitution, reports the newspaper.

Police said the crimes occurred at the Westgate Shopping Plaza and the Central Plaza on June 11 and June 12.

According to police, the women's alleged crimes were fueled by their drug dependencies.

Both women were expected to be arraigned Thursday in Haverhill District Court.
