Police: Officers shot in East Boston upgraded to 'stable' condition

BOSTON — Two Boston Police Officers shot in East Boston last week are on the road to recovery, according to the department.

Boston police tweeted Monday that Officers Richard Cintolo and Matt Morris have both been upgraded to "stable" condition, meaning they've made it out of critical condition.

Both officers were taken to Mass. General Hospital last Wednesday night after being shot by a suspect accused of threatening his roommates with a knife.

After undergoing several surgeries each, the officers are finally doing better and recovering, according to Commissioner Bill Evans.

Monday night, a prayer service for the officers was held at St. Joseph & St. Lazarus Church and attended by Mayor Marty Walsh and Commissioner Evans.

Evans said part of the on-going investigation includes reviewing if Figueroa armed himself after the 911 calls in preparation for police arrival.
