Police: North Eastham man locked dog in car with weed, no water

BARNSTABLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Police in Barnstable said that while they were checking on the welfare of a dog locked inside a hot car, they found marijuana that appeared to have been packaged for sale.

Officers said they were in the area of Cape Cod Community College on Route 132 at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, when they saw an Golden Retriever alone inside of car parked in direct sunlight.

Officers said the car was locked, and the dog did not have any water.

According to police, they identified Peter Gilbins, 25, of North Eastham, as the owner of the car but were unable to contact him.

Officers said the temperature inside the car reached 106 degrees, so they unlocked the vehicle and got the dog out.

Once the car was unlocked, police said they found a mason-style jar that contained six individual plastic bags of marijuana.

Gilbins was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He will be arraigned Wednesday.
