Police: NH woman runs down pedestrian with child in car

MANCHESTER, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A 25-year-old New Hampshire woman was arrested Sunday morning after she reportedly ran down a pedestrian with her 20-month-old son seated in the front passenger seat.

Mary Knee, of Manchester, N.H. is charged with reckless conduct, conduct after an accident, and endangering the welfare of a child for a reported pedestrian accident that occurred in the area of Wilson Street, just north of Cilley Road, around 9 a.m.

Police responded to the area and found a 29-year-old woman who had sustained bruises and abrasions to her knees and hands. She told police that she had been struck by a vehicle operated by a woman known to her.

The victim told police that she was walking north on Wilson Street when she saw a Ford Windstar van, operated by Knee, traveling south on Wilson Street towards her. The victim also noted that Knee had a young child seated in the front seat.

Several witnesses corroborated the victim's story telling police that the van drove directly at the woman, but she managed to jump out of the way; however, the van then stopped, backed up, and attempted to hit the victim again.

The vehicle reportedly struck the victim with the front end, causing her to go up and over the front of the vehicle landing on the ground. The van then left the area, but was located by officers a short time later in the area of Silver Street and Wilson Street.

Officers noted that Knee's son was seated in a forward facing car seat in the front seat, despite visible warning labels on the sun visor warning of the dangers to a small child seated in the front seat if an airbag is deployed.

Knee was additionally charged with violation of existing bail conditions.
