Police: New Bedford man cashes in winning lotto ticket, gets robbed

NEW BEDFORD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) –A New Bedford man was reportedly assaulted and robbed Friday night after he had just redeemed his lottery ticket winnings at a local convenience store.

The 53-year-old victim cashed a lottery ticket at the Luck 7 convenience store located at County and Weld streets around 8:45 p.m. when a man reportedly stopped him and asked for a cigarette and cash, reports SouthCoast Today..

As the victim reached for his wallet, the suspect punched him. Then men then struggled over the wallet before the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

According to the newspaper, the victim recalled seeing the suspect enter the store as he was leaving.
