Police: Man with samurai sword robs New Bedford store

NEW BEDFORD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A samurai sword-wielding robber and an accomplice reportedly robbed a convenience store on Coggeshall Street in New Bedford early Saturday morning.

According to South Coast Today, a male suspect entered the Petro Mart gas station and convenience store around 2 a.m. Saturday. He walked around the aisles before he went behind the counter and threatened the clerk with a kitchen knife.

As the first suspect stole cash from the drawer, the second suspect entered and stole cigarettes and rolling papers.

The robber with the kitchen knife ordered the clerk to his knees, as the second suspect pulled a 3-foot samurai sword from his waistband. The suspects then fled the store, reports the newspaper.

Luckily, the clerk was uninjured.

The first suspect was described as a white male approximately 17 to 20-years-old. He ranges in height from 5'2" to 5'6" tall and weighs approximately 135 pounds.

The second suspect was described as a thin, Hispanic man. He is approximately 5'6" tall.
