Police: Man solicited minors in Mansfield area over the Internet

MANSFIELD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Medford man is accused of soliciting a young girl for sex on Facebook and police want to know if there are more victims.

Police say that over a two-week period, 30-year-old Peter Campobasso engaged with a 12-year-old Mansfield girl online, asking for her to send nude photos of herself in return for money and gifts.

When the girl realized it wasn't a prank, she texted him that she was reporting him to the police.

After executing a search warrant at his home in Medford, detectives arrested Campobasso and charged him with posing or exhibiting a child in the state of nudity or sexual conduct.

Police say when they arrested the 30-year-old, he told them he lost his cell phone. However, the phone could be heard vibrating in his bedroom when an officer called the number.

Court documents reveal Campobasso friended several girls on Facebook and got their phone numbers. He allegedly offered cash, gifts from the mall, and even a chance to meet Justin Bieber.

Detectives in Mansfield believe that Campobasso victimized more girls in the Mansfield and Attleboro areas and used Facebook and other social media websites to ask for nude photos.

According to court documents, Campobasso suggested meeting one 15-year-old at a hotel in Foxborough to have sex.

A judge set Campobasso's bail at $10,000 cash. He is also forbidden from seeing children or using computers and social media websites.

Campobasso also has a pending larceny charge in Boston, and is due back in court May 12, when more charges could be added.

Anyone with information regarding Campobasso's conduct or potential victims is asked to call Mansfield police at 508-261-7300.
