Police: Man shoots handgun at wood stove, hits day care

HYANNIS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A man, who was reportedly angry with his neighbors, fired a handgun and struck a day care with several bullets.

According to CapeCodOnline.com, 66-year-old George Rackliffe was angry with his neighbors who were arguing. He then took out a gun and fired eight rounds into the wood stove in his home. Investigators said three of the bullets pierced the stove and traveled out of his home, striking a neighbor's house.

Police said two bullets entered the home, hitting a staircase and a wall.

The website reports that five people, including  two children, were in the home at the time of the shooting. There were no injuries.

Rackliffe initially told police that he fired the weapon because he thought there was in intruder in his home, but later changed his story, CapeCodOnline.com reported.

He was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, three counts of injury to real/personal property and five counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

The weapon was licensed to Rackliffe, according to CapeCodOnline.com.
