BARNSTABLE, Mass. — A man has been arrested in connection to the rape of a 13-year-old girl in 2012, according to Barnstable police.
The 13-year-old was sexually assaulted in the bath house at Marstons Mills Pond on July 1, 2012, police say. As she left the bath house, a masked man threatened her with a knife and forced her back inside before raping her, according to police.
John Dias, 23, was the primary suspect at the time and a DNA sample was taken.
In December 2016, that DNA sample was finally matched to a DNA sample taken from the victim at the time.
Dias, of Centerville, was arrested Monday and charged with the rape of a child by force, along with other charges relating to the assault.
Correction: An earlier version of this story had the wrong mug shot attached to the story. The person was misidentified as John Dias. The mug shot has been corrected.
