Police looking for car that allegedly hit 3-year-old, drove off

WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester police are searching for a car after the driver allegedly ran over a 3-year-old's leg Sunday evening.

Police said the incident happened around 7:40 p.m. on Bellevue Street. A car was parked in the street while a passenger was getting out; a blue Mercury Marquis tried to go around the parked car by going into the opposite lane, said police.

At that moment, 3-year-old Achilles Quinones stepped into the street and was hit by the Marquis.

“His mom was putting a baby in the car because she was crying and wanted to go home and next thing you know the kids not in the middle of the road, he’s like right here, and the car just hit him,” Destiny Santiago, a witness, said.

Witnesses said said the driver stopped on top of the child's legs, and then backed up. A witness approached the vehicle and yelled, "You just hit a small child!", said police.

The driver then allegedly rolled up his windows, locked his door and sped off.

The child was taken to the hospital by ambulance; no bones are believed to be broken.

Witnesses said the Marquis appeared to be a 1994 model and the plate read 5NN395 with a Massachusetts registration.
