Police investigating suspected overdose of 6-year-old

MANCHESTER, NH — Police are investigating after a 6-year-old possibly overdosed Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a Conant Street apartment in Manchester around 6 a.m. for an unresponsive child.

Manchester fire officials said the boy had been in bed with family during the night, and when they woke up, they found him barely breathing.

While trying to figure out what was wrong, fire officials said they learned a man in the house has a history of substance abuse, but claimed there was nothing in the house. He then said he was prescribed Suboxone, but he was out of doses, said Manchester Fire Department.

Medical officials injected two doses narcan, which revived the child, who was then stabilized and taken to a local hospital.

The boy is in the ICU at Elliot Hospital and has since been placed in the care of a family member.

Police continue to investigate the incident. They said this is the youngest possible overdose in the history of the city.

DCYF is also involved in the investigation.
