Police investigate early morning homicide in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Authorities are investigating the early morning murder of a 23-year-old New Bedford man.

Police responded to the area of Myrtle and Cedar Grove streets just after 1 a.m. Thursday to find the victim, identified as Patrick Alves, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Alves was transported to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

New Bedford and Mass. State Police, as well as prosecutors with District Attorney Sam Sutter's office, are investigating. Details of Alves' death were not immediately released.

The homicide occurred less than 24 hours after two others were found dead on Brock Avenue in New Bedford. The pair were found dead inside an apartment Wednesday afternoon in a possible murder-suicide.
