Police investigate death of infant in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The remains of an infant were found outside of a three-story home in New Bedford Friday.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office announced via press release a resident discovered the remains outside of a home located at 1065 County St. at about 6:30 p.m. The infant was a Caucasian six pound baby girl.

The discovery is being called an unattended death by investigators. Further details were not immediately released.

An autopsy is expected to take place this weekend.

Mass. State Police and the Bristol County District Attorney's office are assisting in the investigation.

Jan. 6 marked seven years since the last deadly newborn abandonment in all of New England, according to a press release from Baby Safe Haven.
