Police in Lowell searching for men who wore 'Scream' masks during robbery

LOWELL, Mass. — Police in Lowell are searching for two masked men after a liquor store robbery Wednesday night.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. at Belvidere Liquors on Concord Street when the men walked in and demanded cash from two employees.

Both men were wearing dark clothes, one was wearing a white ‘Scream’ mask and carrying a handgun, the other was wearing a black mask and carrying what police say appears to be a sawed-off shotgun.

“Threatened me to get money out the register, just put my hands up,” Manny, one of the clerks, said. “I wasn't scared and it didn't intimidate me and I don't think they liked that, so that made them kind of nervous.”

About 45 minutes earlier, a gas station clerk on Lakeview Avenue reported seeing two men dressed in black clothes wearing ‘Scream’ masks outside the store. The employee went inside and locked the doors before calling police.

A K9 was able to track the suspects in the direction of Aiken Avenue before losing the trail. The two men got away with all of the cash in the register and a bottle of Hennessy.

“They seemed like they were pretty nervous. They tried to come in both behind the counter at once and that was a giveaway right there,” Manny said.

Police said they believe the suspects in both incidents are the same. None of the store employees were injured.

“It's never happened to us before and were finding ways to prevent it my boss is and hopefully it will never happen again,” Manny said.
