BOSTON, Mass. — Lansdowne Street along Fenway Park will now be closed to vehicle traffic on Red Sox game days.
The City of Boston wanted to close the street for security reasons. Officials said there are no threats to Fenway and cited recent terror attacks abroad that involve trucks driving into crowds as a security concern when Boston 25 News first broke this story Tuesday.

“I did notice a difference. I just said it to my family at the end. I said, 'There's no cars,’” Red Sox fan Jennifer Bergeron said. “I love it. It should be this way. I think it's safe. I think it's great. It's great for the kids. We can walk, we can see, we can look. This is how it should be.”
Lansdowne Street sits below the Green Monster and sees heavy foot traffic on game days due to the number of bars, entrances to the park and the game day ticket sales window.

Wooden barriers are in use immediately, and more secure metal barriers are expected to be implemented as soon as this weekend.
