Police eye same man in second Charlestown break-in

BOSTON — A Boston neighborhood is on edge after police believe the same man has been able to break into two residences.

So far, two women have reported the crimes to police and one of those women said she was assaulted by the man.

On Sunday, a woman said her Decatur Street apartment in Charlestown was broken into, and a witness told police he observed a black male about 20 years old, 6 feet tall with a thin build and wearing dark clothes, leave the area around 3:30 a.m.

That incident occurred just blocks from a similar incident reported on Old Ironsides Way on Jan. 16.

On that morning a woman told police she was asleep when a man with a similar description broke into her home and was indecently assaulted.

Her screams woke her housemates and the man fled out the front door.

Kaye Hunt lives on the first floor of an apartment in the area and said she was shaken from an incident a few nights ago when someone entered her apartment,

The suspect took off when her dog barked, but Hunt said she believes it could have been the same person.

“I got kind of scared, because I’m alone,” she said. “They came in, it was about between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., I was laying on the couch, and they turned the door, and my dog, that’s why I’m glad I got the dog, my dog started barking and then he ran back out.”

Boston police said based on the similar descriptions and facts in each of the incidents, they believe the same man is responsible for both crimes.

The incidents remain under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call police.
