Police: Copper thieves dug tunnel under security fence

FLORIDA, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Six people were arrested in connection with the theft of copper from the Florida Mountain Windmill Farm in Florida, Mass.

Police said the suspects dug a tunnel under a security fence and cut sections of copper wire off of two large spools. The suspects then tried to sell the wire to local scrap metal yards. The value of the wire was about $38,000.

Police said they also found the wire's cover, wire cutting tools and drugs in a hotel room connected to the suspects.

All six were booked at the Cheshire State Police Barracks in Cheshire. It was not immediately known what they were charged with.
