AMESBURY, Mass. — An overnight police chase ended with a deadly crash in Amesbury early Monday morning.

Police say the chase began in Merrimac when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle. The driver refused to stop, police say, and after a brief pursuit the driver lost control and the car rolled over.

The driver, a Lawrence man, was killed in the crash. The front passenger, also a Lawrence man, was seriously injured.

Hours after the crash, a 17-year-old from Lawrence who had also been in the car was found. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

Police say the license plates on the vehicle involved in the crash were stolen.
