Police: Body found on Salisbury beach is missing boater

SALISBURY, Mass. — The body found on a Salisbury beach Monday morning was identified as a missing boater, according to the medical examiner's officer.

Investigators were called out to the beach where witnesses say a decomposing body washed up onto the shoreline Monday morning.

Police and the Coast Guard were searching for the man in the area last week after a boat capsized nearby at the mouth of the Merrimack River.

Chhoeun Chhoun, 44, wasn't found in the search, but police say the body found on the beach Monday was the Lowell man.

“While this is a tragic loss, it will hopefully bring some closure for Mr. Chhoun’s family and friends,” Salisbury Police Chief Thomas Fowler said.

Police say Chhoun was on the boat that capsized Tuesday near the mouth of the Merrimack River. Several agencies were involved in the search last week.

Police say people on the beach discovered the body in the water and pulled it ashore.
