Police arrest suspect in Leominster hit-and-run

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (AP/MyFoxBoston.com) - A driver suspected of a hit and run in Leominster has been arrested and charged with witness intimidation.

Daniel Brand, 34, allegedly struck 16-year-old Joshua Carillo on Route 12 Monday night. He ended up with two broken legs.

Carillo was riding with his cousin when a car taking a turn struck the teen, officials say.

"He saw the driver look left, but the driver never looked right, the driver then accelerated out of Moore Street and ran his cousin over," Lt. Michael Goldman said.

Brand then allegedly sped off, with the bike still lodged under the car. Witnesses saw sparks coming from the car as it traveled down the main drag, leaving scratch marks in the road.

He then stopped down the street, dislodged the bike and disposed of it in the Nashua River. On top of leaving the scene of the accident and witness intimidation, Brand is also accused of driving on a suspended license. The car was registered to his wife. So far, she has yet to be charged.
