Police: 3 taken into protective custody following weekend of vandalism

EPSOM, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Three people were taken into protective custody in Epsom, N.H. Sunday night following a weekend full of vandalism to town property.

Epsom Police Chief Wayne Preve said a granite statue on a traffic circle, which is dedicated to two fallen officers, had been knocked over and signs had been altered to make obscene sayings during a weekend of mischief.

Additionally, residents called to report that there were kids running in and out of traffic on Sunday night. Officers responded and took three people into protective custody.

According to Preve, those taken into custody were intoxicated and underage.

Preve said there were approximately 20 students, possibly a fraternity, from MIT staying at the Epsom Valley Campground; however, it is unclear if these students were those taken into custody.

It is believed the students left the campground Monday morning.

There are not witnesses to the monument being knocked over, Preve said.

The incidents remain under investigation.
