EVERETT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 28-year-old man from Arizona was arrested in Everett on Friday afternoon after police seized over 2,000 pounds of what they believe to be marijuana from the truck he was driving.
Luis Barrios, of Tuscon, AZ, is charged with trafficking in marijuana, use of a motor vehicle without authority, providing a false name to a police officer, providing a false name by arrestee, and failure to use turn signal.
Investigators say a Mass. State Police trooper stopped Barrios on Mystic View Road after he exited Route 16 east without signaling. Police say Barrios had difficulty finding the registration and rental agreement for the Ryder box truck he was driving.
While Barrios was looking for the documents, the trooper noticed a package that he believed to be consistent with those used in trafficking narcotics. The trooper says he received consent to search the truck and found more than 100 bundles of "a green vegetable matter consistent with the appearance and packaging of marijuana."
Investigators say a K-9 team also alerted to the presence of drugs in the truck.
Barrios will be arraigned Tuesday.
