MANCHESTER, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two Vermont women were arrested in New Hampshire Sunday for smoking crack cocaine inside a car and in the presence of a 2-year-old boy, police said.

Undercover police officers working in Manchester said they approached a car parked on the side of a Mobil Gas Station on Elm Street at about 7:20 p.m.

Officers had been monitoring the car and its occupants, who appeared to be engaged in suspicious activity near Spruce Street and Barry Avenue, and again in the area of Merrimack Street and Union Street.

Police said as they approached the car they saw the driver holding a glass pipe in her hand. They also found a child in the car.

The driver was identified as 32-year-old Sarah Lucas, of Barre, Vt. Lucas was arrested and charged with three felony counts of possession of a controlled drug.

Lucas was allegedly in possession of a syringe containing suspected cocaine, as well as 21 Clonazepam pills. Police also located a metal container in the vehicle that contained what they believed was crack cocaine.

Lucas' passenger, 31-year-old Ellen Smith, also of Barre, Vt., was arrested and charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled drug and endangering the welfare of a minor. The child found in the car is Smith's son.

Smith was also held on a warrant for resisting arrest out of Concord, N.H. Her son was eventually released to a family member.
