Plymouth officer's gun lost at courthouse recovered

PLYMOUTH (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A Plymouth police officer's sidearm that was lost in a bathroom at Wareham District Court has been recovered.

Capt. John Rogers Jr. put the Smith & Wesson .357 revolver down in the bathroom of the court at about 3 p.m. Monday, then left without taking it. When he went back for it minutes later, it was gone. He immediately notified court officials.

Court officers and local police, with the help of a weapon-sniffing dog, did a sweep of the courthouse and passed everyone inside through a metal detector without success.

The gun was recovered at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Chief Michael Botieri did not say how the gun was tracked down. He told The Patriot Ledger his department would not be seeking criminal charges and the case is considered closed. The gun had not been fired.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
