Plymouth hit and run victim's family wants to see cited driver in court

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — A south shore family is seeking answers after a young father was killed in a hit and run accident and the person who hit him was only cited.

It's been a month and a half since Marcus Osborne was hit and killed on State Road in Plymouth.

The car that him on Aug. 6 hit him so hard, his body flew 96 feet. He died the next morning.

“I kept on saying, ‘Marcus, open your eyes,’” Dorothy Melander told Boston 25 News.

She took us back to the spot where she tried to help Osborne after he was hit leaving a cookout at her Plymouth home.

Police say the person who hit Osborne drove off without stopping. %

He died hours later at a Boston hospital, leaving behind his 6-month-old daughter, Julianna, and a burgeoning music career.

“That's the thing I'm going to miss about Marcus, being funny and full of life,” said cousin Briana Pina.

Using debris from the scene, police tracked down the female driver and cited her with a misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident.

Osborne's family struggles to understand why the suspect isn't facing more serious charges.

“[She] killed somebody and she got a citation,” Melander said. “I think she should be held accountable for her actions.”

Investigators told Boston 25 News more serious charges could be pending as they wait on a reconstruction report from Mass. State Police.

But that's little comfort for the family, who say they just want a chance to face the driver in court and eventually, behind bars.

“Those are the questions I want answered. Why didn't she stop?” said Pina.

The driver will head to court on the citation in December.

Marcus Osborne did not have life insurance. His family has set up a YouCaring page to help cover funeral expenses.
