Pickup truck lands in pond after driver swerves to avoid deer

WALPOLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Members of Walpole's police and fire departments pulled a pickup truck out of a pond off Oak Street Sept. 30 after it became completely submerged during an early morning accident.

Authorities responded to the area of Oak Street at Audubon Drive at about 1:30 a.m. for reports of a vehicle that had left the road, crashed through a fence, and came to rest in a small pond near the intersection.

The truck was completely submerged, but the driver, 37-year-old Haralambos Kalemkerieds, was not injured, reports The Walpole Times.

Kalemkerieds told authorities he swerved to avoid a deer.

An automobile service center, along with two SCUBA divers and some heavy equipment, were able to remove the car from the pond Wednesday morning.
