Person struck, killed on 93 NB in Boston

BOSTON — A person was struck and killed by a car on the expressway Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on I-93 northbound between Mass. Ave and Southampton Street, near Exit 15.

Mass. State Police confirmed the crash was fatal just before 6:30 a.m. FOX25 crews on scene observed a tarp with a body underneath and a shoe in the middle of the road.

The body was removed by the Medical Examiner's Office around 7 a.m.

The two right lanes of 93 NB were closed following the crash, causing serious delays and drive times as high 195 minutes from the Braintree Split to the Mass. Pike.

Drivers were encouraged to take alternate routes.By 7:45 a.m., all lanes were reopened.

Police say it's unknown why the person was on the highway. An investigation is ongoing.
